Hiking, camping toilet solves problems for hikers
If you're hiking and camping anywhere but a developed campground or backyard camp site -- a quality camping toilet may be just what you need, and some of the best camping toilets out there come in convenient backpacks. If you're hiking into any more rugged conditions than a park, you may find yourself forced to take toilet paper and flashlight in hand and trek into the woods. But lack of toilet facilities needn't put a strain on your hiking or camping fun.
Several camping and outdoor gear companies offer an excellent variety of camping toilets. A good camping toilet kit probably won't be configured like the bathroom facilities you're used to at home, although several are very similar to indoor, common toilets, and few take much practice to get the hang of using them. The portable toilet variety looks very much like a regular toilet, sort of like an adult sized version of a tot's potty training seat. (The specific camping toilet linked to there folds out from a briefcase sized object to a fully adult sized portable toilet stool.)
The handiest and probably best camping toilets for hikers are those like the "Cleanwaste On-The-Go Backpack Toilet System," which is really a very manageable, bona fide backpack. The backpack contains a full-sized foldout portable toilet, privacy tent (with cross-ventilation system for fresh air), and 15 "waste kits" which consist of biodegradable bags and a biodegradable powder to treat waste products. The makers of this wonderful backpacker's toilet even say the included privacy tent can be used as a personal shower. (The shower device(s) are not included with the kit, however.)
